Dallas......Finally
What a journey. We left San Diego at around 5pm on Tuesday and have just arrived in Dallas, Texas.
There is no way to really describe it, flat and passing mountain range after mountain range. First drive was through to El Paso, Texas. We had a great laugh on the bus through the night. We sat around drinking and telling jokes, taking the piss out of each other.
El Paso is a different thing all together, pulled in and looked for a hotel, all not too nice and decided to just move on after breakfast. Breakfast was Taco Bell, right next to a downtown happening flea market. The whole town's economy seemed to revolve around this slightly scary market. Lots of hangers around waiting to rip off musicians parked and blocking the whole Taco Bell/KFC car park. We all ate badly for breakfast, then headed over to the market. Buster bought clothes for the band, especially Richie, Buster's dress up doll in the band.
The bus basically maxes out at about 60mph, so the drives are so long. Next we just drive through the day to Odessa, Texas, andreally did not see anything, just the Wal-Mart and a truck stop. We cannot find the batteries for the bus' internal systems which means no heat, no fridge, no electricity.
As we carry on driving, you just fall in and out of sleep, woken up by gas stops, people snoring very loud, and the sound of bodily functions...you get the picture. We just arrived in Dallas at a Motel 6. I am sure if there is a Motel 5 we will find it tomorrow.
Our new Trumpet player flies in today from NY. We have only until 10 am here then we pick him up for a rehearsal. We should hit the Granada at around 3pm today for sound check, then the fun begins.
Today is the first show with the English Beat, should be interesting!
